Transport for London is to implement a map providing live data on road travel across the capital.
The organisation is seeking a supplier that can provide a real-time feed with detail of “full point-to-point vehicular journey-time data, mapped to a major road junction geography defined by TfL”. The platform must be capable of delivering information within three minutes of the end of windows of five minutes.
“In addition, TfL is seeking options for mode split – between cars [and] freight, [for example] – and, where beneficial, for a secondary enriched dataset,” it said. “All data will be delivered to TfL’s architecture via an API connection.”

The rollout is the first programme of work in a wider “data roadmap project”, through which the transport authority hopes to improve the quality of data it holds on surface transport, in order to make better decisions.
The supplier appointed to provide real-time roads data will be expected to roll out the platform within about three months, and then deliver information to TfL for the duration of a two-year engagement.
The deal is expected to be worth about £1.5m to the chosen provider. Bidding is open until 15 January.
