Post comes with remit to spearhead tech transformation and manage £55m planned investment
Manchester City Council is offering a £100,000-plus salary for an IT leader to spearhead a “technology transformation programme”.
The authority is advertising a vacant position as director of IT. The postholder will “lead the iterative development and delivery of our digital, data and technology transformation programme”.
This will involve overseeing planned product and services investment of £55m over the next two years, as well as managing £100m in existing supplier contracts.
The council’s IT estate – which it claims includes a network of more than 25,000 miles in total length – serves more than 6,000 employees across 300 sites throughout the city and beyond.

The chosen applicant will also work closely with peers in the NHS and the Greater Manchester Combined Authority.
The council is seeking a director of IT that has experience of leading a transformation programme at an organisation of a similar size.
“An inspiring and effective communicator, you will bring experience of having transformed services and technology provision elsewhere, having led a step change in delivery capability and embedded an enterprise-wide appetite for continuous improvement,” it said. “You will also be commercially astute, able to build strong working relationships with a range of external partners to maximise impact and agility.”
Applications for the role are open until 23 December. Preliminary interviews will take place in Birmingham or Leeds in mid-January, with psychometric assessments taking place later in the month. Final panel interviews are scheduled for early February.
The position comes with an annual salary of between £95,953 and £105,940.
