Barts Health to launch procurement for supplier to host and maintain VDI environment

The UK’s largest NHS trust is preparing a £10m contract for a supplier to manage its virtual desktop infrastructure.
Barts Health NHS Trust has published a prior information notice outlining its desire to appoint a tech partner to “a supplier to provide hosting, support and maintenance for the VDI environment currently implemented across” the organisation.
The chosen firm may ultimately be tasked with providing a wider range of end-user computing products and services, according to the PIN.

“The trust would also like to explore the possibility of procuring a wider service wrap and provision to cover further elements of end-user computing and end-user devices, including gold image build, user administration and device provision and build,” it said. “The intention is, through this contract, to iterate and modernise the virtual platforms and end user computing solution and service wrap to further improve the end user experience, and better enable different ways of working across the trust.”
A formal procurement process is due to commence around 20 March next year, when Barts expects to publish a contact notice for a £10m single-supplier deal.
Potential bidders are asked to attend a one-hour webinar to be hosted by the trust on 11 December at 3pm, during which it will provide further information on its computing needs. Following the webinar, suppliers will be invited to a face-to-face “market engagement” event which the trust intends will help shape the procurement process.
Barts employs over 16,000 staff at five hospitals across east London. It serves a total of 2.5 million patients.
