Cornwall Council is recruiting for a senior manager to lead its transformation agenda.

The authority is advertising a vacant position as service director for people, change, and digital. The successful candidate will spearhead “a major digital improvement programme” of service transformation, and a drive to adopt “new technologies and ways of working”.

This work will, ultimately, be expected to deliver “lasting cultural change” for the council.

The service director will be at the head of a 370-strong organisation, and will manage an annual tech and transformation budget of £25m. The position comes with a yearly salary of up to £109,000 – plus a possible relocation allowance.

The position offers an opportunity to play “a central role in shaping what comes next for our region”, according to the council.

“Cornwall is a place that is forging ahead in the 21st century,” it said. “Behind our reputation as a rural idyll, our county is changing fast. Our growth and investment plans are amongst the most ambitious in the UK and we’re becoming a hub for enterprise, entrepreneurialism and new thinking.”

The council added: “This is a strategic and influential role with responsibility for leading the development of world-class people, digital, change and programme management functions that will enable the council to be an outcomes-based and transformative authority. You will lead the development of coherent strategies, policies and frameworks across all elements of these services and will have accountability for developing, driving and evolving an organisational development framework that supports and enables organisational transformation.”

Applications are open until Friday 22 November. Interviews with recruitment firm Tile Hill will take place during the week commencing 2 December, followed by final panel interviews two weeks after that.
