Nottinghamshire seeks leader to spearhead 10-year transformation ambitions

New senior-management role comes with a remit to lead county ‘in a new evolutionary direction’

Nottinghamshire County Council has created a senior management position for a leader to spearhead a 10-year programme of transformation.

The role as service director for transformation and change comes with a salary of up to £96,816 and a responsibility for leading a corporate function that has recently been remodelled into three units: a strategic insight team, providing the council with assistance on data and analytics, use of artificial intelligence, and policy creation; a transformation bureau dedicated mainly to project-management support; and a portfolio office, which the authority said “provides integrated governance and monitoring support and challenge”.

The council has also sought to “embed service improvement capacity” within each of its service and policy divisions in a bid to “ensure a strong relationship between operational [and] service-level improvement and change, and more strategic transformation”.

The new service director will take on overall managerial responsibility for the authority’s transformation ambitions and programmes, and will be a central figure in in the “creation and delivery of the 10-year council plan and play a pivotal role in taking Nottinghamshire forward in a new evolutionary direction”.

The successful candidate will become one of three service directors – alongside heads of customers, governance and employees, and finance, infrastructure and improvement – reporting into chief executive Anthony May.

“We want to be at the forefront of national thinking around new ways of delivering services and to do this we have developed an ambitious approach to cross-council transformation and change to improve outcomes for our residents and deliver savings and even greater value for money into the bargain,” Nottinghamshire said. “We’re looking for a strategic leader to manage the council’s cross-cutting transformation programmes and lead the council’s corporate planning, policy and insight functions. You must have the ability to think differently but foster creativity and difference within the organisation with a strong transformation background.”

Interested applicants have to until 9am on Monday 11 October to submit their CV and a supporting statement of up to four sides of A4, in which they must summarise their interest in the role and credentials. Recruitment is being run on behalf of the council by specialist firm Penna.
