Standards and Testing Agency seeks leader to lead development of new tools

The government body responsible for creating and administering tests for schoolchildren across England up to age of 14 is recruiting for a new head of digital services.

The Standards and Testing Agency is seeking a leader who will “be responsible for developing and managing digital services”.

This will include heading up work on the new online platform for testing multiplications tables that, from next year, become a mandatory part of the curriculum for all year 4 students. The digital services chief will also oversee the agency’s work with the suppliers working on a portal to be launched next year through schools can manage the administration of tests.

The agency said: “You will lead the management of the outsourced school administration portal including a transition to a new supplier. You will support the STA in developing a digital service that will improve how we deliver all our assessments to schools.  You will lead a number of agile multi-disciplinary teams that include staff from suppliers to develop and manage new digital assessment services.”

The digital head will also work with the agency’s “assessment specialists and test-delivery staff” to ensure that existing and new services are as easy as possible for teachers and pupils to use.

The role comes with a salary of up to £72,681 and the chosen candidate can choose to operate from either Coventry or London – although will be required to spend at least two days a week in the former. Applications are open until 15 May.

STA is an executive agency of the Department for Education. In addition to its work to create and deliver tests, it also holds responsibility for developing policy in the area of pupil assessments. Its work is overseen by the exams regulator Ofqual.
