Ofgem offering up to £100k for head of security

As energy sector relies more on digital devices and data it needs someone to lead on securing these

Ofgem, the UK’s energy regulator whose remit it is to protect the interest of existing and future electricity and gas consumers, is on the hunt for a head of security, privacy and resilience, that can help to ensure that energy supplies are protected against new digital threats emerging from more internet-connected devices and systems within the energy network.

Ofgem creates, collates, analyses and shares data to enable consumers, energy suppliers and the organisation itself to gain insight into the sector – but this information is also valuable to competitors, criminals and hostile governments, according to the job advert posted by the company on the Civil Service website.

To help secure this data, and also Ofgem staff and facilities, the organisation said it had to take action to ensure it is able to deliver its services, overcoming system outages and responding effectively to major operational, technical or commercial incidents affecting the security of the organisation, its employees and the energy suppliers and customers it serves.

It is therefore seeking “an innovative, dynamic and highly motivated security leader with experience of operating across the public and private sectors”.

Ofgem would ideally like the post holder to have experience of the gas and electricity sectors, regulation of a UK market sector, and the protection of critical national infrastructure at national and international levels.

The head of security, privacy and resilience will have to ensure the organisation is compliant with security regulations in the sector, as well as the confidentiality, availability and integrity of data that Ofgem processes. They will be tasked with helping Ofgem and its partners to use information and technology securely to achieve its strategic objectives, and to prepare for, detect, respond to and recover from incidents affecting operational services, business performance, safety and change delivery.

Ofgem is offering up to £100k for this full-time role, based in Canary Wharf in London. The job advert can be found here , and applications should be submitted by 9am on Monday 24th September 2018.
