Local authority opens new digital portal for citizens

Crawley Borough Council has launched a self-service online portal for citizens to access information and services.
By creating an account on the myCrawley platform, residents can access personalised online forms and real-time information related to the waste and recycling services delivered to them by the council. With the provision of some additional details, users can view council tax bills and make payments.
The tool also offers citizens of the West Sussex town (pictured above) the chance to manage which alerts and updates they wish to receive from the council.

The portal, which is built on the platform developed by public sector digital specialist Firmstep, aims to offer citizens and council staff a comprehensive overview of transactions. In addition to the core portal, myCrawley is underpinned by CRM, workflow tools, and an internal service dashboard.
The front end is optimised for use on mobile devices, and the platform integrates with Crawley’s own IT systems and those of its contractors, the council said, meaning it can provide automated updates and transactions, and negate the need for citizens to re-enter information.
Councillor Andrew Skudder, cabinet member for resources at Crawley Borough Council, said: “myCrawley is a major digital project for the council, which gives residents another way to access services. We have already made improvements to how we treat personal visitors to the town hall and telephone callers, and now we can offer a similar improvement to online visitors. From real-time rubbish and recycling updates, personalised forms, managing a council tax account and signing up for email subscriptions, myCrawley does all that and with more to follow.”
