Staffordshire County Council’s chief information officer Sander Kristel has won Socitm’s digital engagement award 2014 for his joint working with a digital transformation consultancy.
The award was one of six annual awards announced at the 2014 Socitm annual conference dinner in Manchester.
Kristel’s team has worked with consultancy Adapt2Digital to monitor, track and develop the council’s ability to adapt to the changing world of digital.
Kristel said: “We have run master classes with members of our Senior Leadership team and other significant influencers and are looking at Staffordshire as a community rather than solely the council as an organisation.
“There is a lot of talk about digital at the moment but many organisations are not moving far beyond channel-shift.”
Kent Connects, an alliance of public sector bodies in the county, won the award for innovation for its Transformed by You programme.
Judges said that the programme had stimulated collaboration on “digital by design” services.
Surrey County Council scooped the award for the best website, after coming top in Socitm’s Better Connected report, published in March.
Reviewers said the site was “a joy to use”.
“Information was excellent and the paths to it easy to follow. The site makes creating a local authority website that works well look easy,” they said.
Authentication firm Verisec won the Socitm supplier award for its “cutting edge approach, excellent technical abilities and very competitive pricing”. Arcus was highly commended in the category.
The Socitm Graham Williamson research award was picked up by Dan Blundell, a developer at Northamptonshire County Council.
The member award went to Ralph McNally, head of local public services ICT integration at Leeds City Council for his work on health and local government integration as well as “his significant voluntary involvement in the Yorkshire & Humberside region”.
