Dudley offers £130k for transformation leader


Local authority in the West Midlands is advertising a senior leadership posting which brings with it the responsibility to drive a reform agenda centred on tech, innovation and business intelligence

Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council is offering a six-figure salary for a senior leader to spearhead a “wide-ranging transformation programme” over the coming years.

This reform will rely on “leveraging technology, innovation, and business intelligence [and] insight”, according to the advert for the vacant role of director for transformation at the West Midlands authority.

The detailed job description adds that the successful candidate will assume “accountability and leadership” in a wide range of areas. This includes: “council vision, strategy and policy; [and] service modernisation”.

Also part of the remit is “ICT and cyber security strategy and operations” as well as “innovation [including] automation, AI and modernisation strategy”  and “customer contact channels and out-of-hours contact services”.

Other duties include managing “community, resident, partner and workforce feedback” and oversight of “HR/workforce including employee relations”, the job description adds.

The overall objective for the new hire will be to “lead the transformation of council functions through technology and innovation, focusing on integration, business process redesign, self-service, and modernisation to reduce costs and enhance customer experiences. [And to] implement and continuously improve the new operating model to deliver high-quality, efficient services with effective governance and team collaboration”.

In doing so, the postholder will be expected to “manage designated budgets, ensuring performance management systems are in place to optimise resources and income [and] ensure compliance with legal and regulatory standards and promote transparency and ethical standards”.

The post – for which applications are open until 3 April – comes with a salary of between £118,000 and £130,000.

The advert tells prospective applicants: “Your leadership will be key in implementing a new operating model and delivering on our Council Improvement Plan, with a focus on creating efficient, high-quality services that truly benefit our residents.”

The borough served by the council is home to 320,000 people and includes the towns of Brierley Hill, Halesowen, Stourbridge and Dudley itself. The authority employs 3,000 people and operates on an annual budget of about £330m.
