Newly created role comes with a remit to use data in service delivery

Plymouth City Council is offering a six-figure salary in its bid to fill the newly created role of service director of digital and customer experience.
The successful candidate will be tasked with providing “digital leadership” for the council and the wider city.
During the first six months of their tenure, this work will include heading up teams across digital, customer services, and business support functions to jointly develop a new customer service strategy.
The digital chief will then be expected to “continuously develop the customer experience, using insight and data to inform the way services are delivered”. Working to ensure that all citizens can access services by “minimising the digital divide and promoting inclusion and diversity across the city” will also form part of the role.
The chosen applicant will be tasked with working alongside the council’s other directors to better support them in delivering the authority’s “overall objectives at a city, sub-region, regional and national level”. The postholder will also be expected to “communicate the vision of the council and motivate and influence others to acquire this”.
The council said: “This is new role offers an exciting opportunity to be joining one of Europe’s most vibrant waterfront cities. As the UK’s 15th largest city, we want to enhance and develop our digital offer, but at the same time drive a multi-channel customer experience making sure the most vulnerable in our city are not left behind.”
It added: “You will bring a track record of delivering digital solutions and improved customer experience across all areas of the organisation, along with the energy, enthusiasm and desire to join a forward-thinking city.”
The position comes with a salary of £107,000 a year. Applications are open until 20 August.
