The Department for Work and Pensions has launched an online service allowing people to apply for pension credit.
The digital tool, which was introduced last week, allows pensioners to make an online application for the benefit – a means-tested payment that provides a top-up for those whose income is below a certain threshold. The government said that “simply provide an additional option” for pensioners, and existing telephone and postal options will remain in place.
“This means that a person can claim the benefit without having to leave their home and at a time of their choosing, helping them adhere to social distancing and shielding measures,” it said. “It will also mean not having to wait to get through on the phone, at a time when phone lines may be particularly busy.”
The tool can be accessed here.
