The Foreign and Commonwealth Office has chosen Deloitte to support a project to assess its cybersecurity credentials and help set its strategy for the future.

The department sought a provider to deliver the discovery phase of a “cybersecurity improvement plan”.

The work, which began in November and is due to conclude towards the end of next month, is aimed at mapping the Foreign Office’s existing cyber set-up, and setting a strategy for its future improvement.

Deloitte will be tasked with “supporting the FCO in enabling the transformation of its cybersecurity capability, including a strategic cybersecurity improvement plan… and a clear and prioritised outline business case” for future work.

The deal will be worth £250,000 to the professional services giant.

The FCO is not the first major department to conduct such an exercise; last year the Ministry of Justice published a contract notice seeking a supplier to support a 12-month exercise to deliver a “cybersecurity policy and guidance review and refresh”. That deal – for which a winning bidder has yet to be specified – was also worth £250,000.
