Canon has won a mysterious £1.1m Ministry of Defence contract to provide photocopiers and related services to an apparently unspecified customer.
The deal came into effect on 1 November and lasts for five years, with no option of extension. It will be worth £1.12m to the printer and copier vendor, which will be tasked with installing machines and then maintaining them over the course of the engagement.
The tender was conducted by the Crown Commercial Service on behalf of the MoD – although the ultimate recipient of the services in question was redacted on all procurement documents.

However, the contract-award notice on the government’s contracts finder website states that the procurement relates to British Forces Cyprus – an arm of the Joint Forces Command comprised of two UK military bases stationed on the Mediterranean island.
The publicly available lease agreement also makes repeated references to the “on-island support services” that Canon will be expected to provide over the coming years.
But, elsewhere, the document affects a rather more secretive tone.
“Delivery of photocopying devices to REDACTED will be required”, the lease agreement says. “MoD REDACTED will organise transport of the goods to the REDACTED locations on REDACTED. The REDACTED logistics team provide a port of entry to ground service and will arrange delivery to relevant offices by the logistics team. The Supplier will be responsible for moving the devices to the final and required location – [such as] ground floor to third-floor office – within the various REDACTED sites.”
