Supplier sought for infrastructure refresh

Wirral Borough Council is seeking a supplier to refresh its wide-area networking infrastructure and provide long-term support.
The authority has published a contract notice for a five-year deal – plus two optional one-year extensions – worth an estimated £4.2m to the winning bidder.

The council is seeking to appoint a “single strategic supplier” to oversee a revamp of its existing IT and comms WAN then deliver its support needs into the future.
The chosen firm will first “assist in the design, supply, delivery, implementation and ongoing support [and] maintenance of the council’s telecoms and data network”, Wirral said.
The provider will then deliver “the replacement of the existing wide area infrastructure”.
“The scope includes the provision of SIP for VOIP and may during the course of the contract also include wider telephony requirements,” the council said.
Bids for the project – which is deemed as being unsuitable for SME providers – are open until 27 November. The council hopes to sign a contact with its chosen partner on 20 January.
