Department for International Trade offers £118k for CTO to ‘raise digital literacy’

Chosen candidate will be tasked with setting departmental IT vision

The Department for International Trade is recruiting for a chief technology officer to set the organisation’s IT strategy and “raise digital literacy” across the department.

The successful applicant will head up the creation and rollout of a departmental IT strategy. This will include “a major consolidation of DIT’s complex IT estate” that will see many functions moved to a recently implemented UK-based cloud platform.

The CTO will also hold responsibility for the delivery of “reliable, secure and iteratively improved IT services to DIT’s global user base”. These services will be primarily delivered through outsourcers partners, the DIT said.

Beyond which, the tech leader will be expected to “identify and capitalise on opportunities to raise digital literacy and confidence across all areas of DIT to enable all staff to adopt, exploit and benefit from the technology solutions available to them”.

The chosen candidate will report to the DIT’s director of digital, data, and technology Kathy Settle. The role comes with an annual salary of up to £117,800.

Applications are open until 7 January. Once the department has sifted through these, successful applicants will be asked to take part in an hour-long staff engagement exercise on 21 January, in which they will give a presentation to a panel of DIT staff, from whom they will then be expected to field questions.

Final panel interviews will take place on 29 January.
