Role as delivery director comes with remit to help ‘redesign approach to delivering technology’

The Home Office is offering an annual salary of up to £105,000 in its bid to recruit an immigration technology delivery director.

The chosen candidate will “be accountable for managing the delivery of a high-profile, challenging, and complex technology-enabled business transformation programme”, the department said. This programme will seek to “transform ways of working” for about 20,000 staff across three agencies: UK Visas and Immigration; Border Force; and Immigration Enforcement.

The transformation agenda – which has a budget of £200m – will see the department “redesign [its] approach to delivering technology”.

“We are delivering technology differently – the delivery framework has multiple application development suppliers collaborating to deliver software components in a continuous delivery environment,” the Home Office said. “It is fast-paced and dynamic, with an exciting and collaborative working environment in London. A truly agile programme – the first for the Home Office and a leading pathfinder across government.”

The immigration technology delivery director role comes with a remit to lead the delivery of the transformation programme’s three component parts.

The first of these is AccessUK, an online application platform for all services related to visas and immigration. This system processes about 3.5 million transactions each year.

The Home Office’s caseworking tool – which the department is using to automate paper-based processes – is the second part. 

The final element is an integrated data platform which aims to provide officials with “a single view of customers and their history”. The platform aims to bring together information from a range of sources to provide “access to a biographic and biometrically matched view” of users.

The immigration technology delivery director will head up a team of about 50 civil servants, and will also be responsible for working with more than 500 contractors and external suppliers.
