Redbridge seeks leader to ‘modernise services and improve digital inclusion’

Outer London borough in the north east of the capital is advertising a vacant digital and transformation managerial post, with a remit to set strategy and deliver key tech improvements

Redbridge Council is seeking to recruit a director of IT and digital transformation in order to help “ensure [it] remains a digitally confident and connected borough”.

The north-east London authority is advertising the post – which comes with a “competitive” salary – with aim of appointing a senior manager “to lead the council’s digital strategy and technology services”.

In developing the borough’s digital plan, the postholder will be expected to ensure that the vision is in “alignment with business needs” and helps support “future-proofing our technology”. The chosen candidate will also be charged with “leading digital change programmes that improve how residents access services and how staff work”, as well as “supporting colleagues to adopt digital tools and self-service models that enhance efficiency and customer experience”.

The role, which reports into Redbridge’s deputy chief executive, also comes with a responsibility for “ensuring robust cyber security and data governance across the organisation”, in addition to “embedding inclusive digital practices that reflect the diversity of Redbridge’s communities”.

In doing so, the new digital and transformation chief will be charged with “building strong partnerships with internal teams, suppliers, and external stakeholders to deliver shared goals”. A key expectation will be “advising members and shaping cross-cutting strategies aligned with Redbridge’s corporate plan”.

Among the key ultimate objectives will be “helping to modernise services [and] improve digital inclusion” throughout the borough.

“This is a key leadership role with the opportunity to shape how we use digital tools and data to improve services, empower staff, and deliver better outcomes for residents,” the advert adds. “You will lead a broad portfolio including digital transformation, IT development and maintenance, cyber security, and data strategy. You will work across the organisation to ensure technology is used effectively, securely, and in ways that support inclusive, customer-focused services.”

Applications for the position are open until 11 July.

Located in the north-east of the capital, the borough of Redbridge is home to about 310,000 Londoners. The biggest towns in the area include Ilford, Wanstead, Woodford, and Newbury Park.
