London borough advertises for executive to lead technology strategy

The London Borough of Lewisham is offering an annual salary of up to £100,000 for a newly created role of assistant director of IT and digital services.

The post comes with a remit to “champion and lead IT and digital improvement and change across the borough” and help the authority improve services and save money.

Key tasks will include overseeing the development and rollout of the council’s IT strategy, including serving as of the “primary point of contact” in managing a shared services arrangement with three other boroughs: Lewisham; Southwark; and Brent.

The chosen candidate will also be expected to “deliver digital services that meet citizens and users’ needs and demonstrate value for money”, while “embedding agile working practices and facilitating a wider digital culture change across the council”.

The authority wishes to deliver innovation by “using design approaches exploiting the capabilities of digital technologies including social media”.

The IT and digital chief will report into the borough’s executive director of customer services.

“This is an exciting new role for the council,” the job advert said. “You will be a key member of the senior leadership team, championing digital improvement and change throughout Lewisham. Working collaboratively across the council, with our partners and alongside our diverse communities you will help achieve the best possible outcomes for our citizens and our customers.”

It added: “An experienced technology leader within a complex organisation of comparable scale, you will be equally adept at defining an ambitious strategy in support of business change, whilst ensuring the delivery of consistent, resilient, flexible IT services through a shared service operating model.  Experience of leading large, multi-disciplinary digital and technology teams and significant budgets is essential.”

Applications are open until 16 December, with a two-stage interview process scheduled to take place during February.
