DWP offers £105k for leader to drive digital recruitment and development

Department advertises for vacant post as head of digital capability

The Department for Work and Pensions is offering a salary of up to £105,000 for a senior manager to lead its recruitment and development of digital staff.

The department said that the vacant role as head of digital capability “will be at the heart of building DWP Digital Group’s new organisational model”. 

Key duties of the post include taking on “overarching responsibility for large-scale recruitment of digital specialists”, as well as overseeing apprenticeships, internships, and career progression of existing digital staff.

The successful candidate will be expected to work with the Government Digital Service “to inform and implement the cross-government DDaT (digital, data and technology) capability framework”. The role also comes with a remit to “lead development of expert digital communities of practice to build professional capability [and] ensure our practices are aligned with existing communities across government”.

The post, which will be based in Manchester, comes with an annual pay packet of between £90,000 and £105,000. 

“The remit of the role is broad, with responsibility for developing capability at both an organisational and individual level,” DWP said. “The head of digital capability will lead work to develop and deliver our Digital Capability Strategy to build capability in Digital Group and the wider organisation, to support transformation of our services.” 

The department added: “The head of digital capability is a significant leadership role within Digital Group, DWP and the wider civil service as well as for the immediate area of responsibility.”

Applications are open until 29 May. A shortlist will be drawn up during the week commencing 11 June, with assessment exercises scheduled for the week after that, and final panel interviews to take place during the week of 25 June.
