Organisation seeks leader of delivery and support functions to manage 550 staff and £85m annual budget
The Government Digital Service is looking for someone to lead its 550-strong group of delivery and support professionals.
The successful candidate, who will report directly into director general Kevin Cunnington, can expect to take home a salary of about £135,000. As well as 400 rank-and-file delivery professionals, 100 staff from tech ops, and 35 product and proposition employees, the director of technology, product, and delivery will oversee the work of four deputy director-level senior managers.
The post comes with a remit to “lead the day-to-day running of GDS’s products and delivery”, as well as working with the rest of the management team to help formulate the organisation’s strategy.

The job advert makes specific reference to the need to maintain a high level of performance across GDS’s range of Government as a Platform tools – including Verify, Notify, and Pay – as well as the GOV.UK online infrastructure for use across the public sector. The successful applicant will be responsible for working with a budget £85m.
“The post-holder will plan, direct, and coordinate all of GDS’s product management, technical capability and digital delivery,” GDS said. “The post-holder will streamline organisational performance, productivity and efficiency. They will develop and maintain a reputation as an exemplar of digital delivery and technical operations across government.”
Applications close on 18 March, five days after which a longlist of candidates will be decided upon. A shortlist is scheduled to be drawn up on 13 April, and the week commencing 16 April will mark the start of a four-stage process that will begin with individual leadership assessments, followed by staff-engagement exercises, fireside chats, and then interviews.
