HMRC offers £90k for leader to spearhead IT transformation projects

Department seeks experienced IT head to play key role in its transformation programme

HM Revenue and Customs is offering an estimated salary of £90,000 for a senior technology leader to head up the rollout of key IT projects within the department’s transformation programme.

The tax agency is recruiting for a deputy director of IT delivery to oversee major IT projects across the “eight core programmes” that, together, add up to HMRC’s transformation agenda. The successful candidate will also be tasked with managing relationships with both suppliers and senior stakeholders within the department.

They will also manage the work of IT delivery teams, and will be expected to work harmoniously with peers across the rest of HMRC’s digital and data function. The chosen applicant will report into director of IT delivery Nigel Green.

“I’m looking for ambitious and talented individuals that are prepared for a challenge,” he said. “With one of the largest IT estates in the country, the programmes currently in progress are larger and more complex than anywhere else in either the public or private sectors.”

Green added: “This role is at the heart of HMRC, working closely to deliver the projects and programmes that underpin the transformation of HMRC. You will be making a huge difference not just to the government, but ultimately to the UK as a whole.”

The closing date for applications is 20 November, eight days after which HMRC will hold a meeting to draw up a shortlist. Interviews will take place in the week before Christmas.
