South Yorkshire authority issues contract notice for three year-plus deal

Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council is to unite all its security technologies into a £1m unified offering as part of a process to cut down on the number of suppliers with which it works.

The South Yorkshire authority has issued a contract notice seeking a supplier to provide a “Cyber Security Suite”. This will include the following technologies: endpoint antivirus; email protection; password security; policy management; vulnerability scanning; phishing simulation; and consultancy.

Barnsley is looking for an IT security specialist to fulfil 41-month contract scheduled to begin on 1 March 2018. The estimated worth of the deal is £985,000.

“The council has multiple lines of defence when it comes to security,” the council said. “A number of endpoint products are due for contract renewal within the next 12 months. The council’s IT services [are] undergoing a rationalisation programme to streamline the number of contracts with multiple suppliers.”
