DWP launches search for £140k CTO

The Department for Work and Pensions is looking for a candidate with experience of managing budgets over £500m

The Department for Work and Pensions is offering a salary of up to £140,000 for a new chief technology officer.

Applicants have until 28 August to apply for the role, which will be based variously in London, Manchester, and Newcastle. According to a candidate pack provided by DWP, the new CTO will be expected to lead the department across a wide variety technologies and disciplines, including architecture design, service delivery, DevOps, and deployment of cloud and hardware infrastructure.

Candidates must possess experience of managing infrastructure “in a complex, high-volume, secure business”, as well as cultivating relationships with technology vendors. Also required is some experience “of driving value for money from budgets of over £500m”, the pack said.

Applications will be assessed on 4 September 2017, at which point a shortlist will be drawn up. During the two-week period commencing on 11 September candidates will undergo assessment and psychometric testing. On 4 October interviews will be conducted by a panel chaired by civil service commissioner Sarah Laessig, and featuring DWP director general of digital technology Mayank Prakash and HR director Ian Pavey, as well as Government Digital Service capability director Holly Ellis.
