Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire police forces will implement shared services as part of efforts to reform IT service delivery.
The forces will share a number of key back office technologies in a bid to modernise finance and HR functions.
The three forces are deploying the eFinancials financial management suite, the Collaborative Planning budgeting and forecasting solution, and mobile approvals tool Advanced Air Approvals, as well as HR and payroll technology from Midland HR and duty management software from Northgate.
The forces have collaborated since 2011 in a number of areas such as armed policing and major crime investigation. They are now looking to combine back-office functions. The project will eventually enable them to adopt a single, shared finance department.

Philip Wells, Assistant Chief Officer of Bedfordshire Police, said that up until now, the three police forces have been using different systems to deliver the same services.
“Having a single way of working, a single integrated system and access to data across forces will enable us to operate more efficiently and productively, meaning that staff will be spending less time on administrative tasks and more time on the frontline,” he added.
