Social services in 10 councils have signed up to use a new tablet app designed to help vulnerable children.
The local authorities in Brent, Bristol, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Norfolk, Suffolk, Tower Hamlets, Wakefield, West Sussex and Wokingham will equip social workers in children’s services with a new tablet app, dubbed “My Three Houses”.
The app – available for iOS and Android tablets – uses video, interactive animation and a drawing pad for children to help social workers speak with children about their experiences of abuse and neglect. It complies with the “Signs of Safety” framework aimed at protecting children from abuse.

The app was developed by Resolutions Consultancy in conjuction with the councils, and was funded by a £4.7m grant from the Department for Education under its Children’s Social Care Innovation Programme.
Peter Evans, West Sussex County Council Cabinet Member for Children – Start of Life, said: “We have been really privileged to be one of only a handful of services to get involved in producing this new app which should have a big impact on the way we work with extremely vulnerable children.
“Our social care practitioners have worked with families to test the design which is much more interactive than previous tools and we are looking forward to putting it into use.”
