A local government ICT professional network has launched a directory to help councils find others which are working on similar projects in order to aid collaboration and efficiency.

“Pipeline” is a pilot project from the LocalGov Digital Makers group, the network for designers and developers working in and around local government.

It takes the form of a wiki for the publication of projects and concept, which is searchable by description, date, stage and language.

A statement from LocalGov Digital said: “We hope Pipeline will break the cycle of local governments developing or buying the same things separately in each council by being able to coordinate their project work.”

Planned future developments include the ability for users to express an interest in a project, calendar views, views by organisation and more.

The organisation was keen to stress that Pipeline is not a tool to enable discussions or a place for storing code, with another of its pilots, Pulse, aimed at helping people find code easier.

Users have to register at the LocalGov Digital website to try out the alpha version of Pipeline.

“Only with input from the wider LocalGov Digital network will Pipeline succeed,, so please do get involved in creating a new way of working, for local governments,” the body said.

In August, LocalGov Digital announced that it would pilot two project teams aimed at improving collaboration between councils developing web services, it has announced.
