DCMS advertises for head of data policy
The government is seeking a head of data policy as part of the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport's team that is developing a National Data Strategy for government.
Last year, responsibility for data policy across government was moved to DCMS from the Government Digital Service. The culture department now has a seven-strong team of policymakers dedicated to government’s use of data. This unit will lead the development and publication of the government’s National Data Strategy that is due to publish in the coming months.
The role as head of data policy for DCMS comes with a remit to lead the department’s data-policy function.
This chosen applicant will “lead the delivery of high-priority policy projects commissioned directly by the DCMS senior management team, ministers, and the two governance boards – [the] Data Leaders Network and Data Advisory Board.”
They will also be asked to “develop and maintain processes and tools for the proactive planning and management of policy development across DCMS, while “ensuring a clear strategic view and future pipeline is available to senior colleagues and ministers”.
Candidates will be assessed on five qualities: leadership; effective decision-making; ability to deliver quickly; collaboration; and ability to “see the big picture”.
The role will be based in London, and comes with an annual salary of up to £67,632. Applications are open until 23 June.
