Crown Prosecution Service recruits for two senior digital roles 


Non-ministerial department offers up to £95,000 a year in bid to secure new deputy director for digital and deputy director for digital programmes  

The Crown Prosecution Service has launched recruitment campaigns for two senior digital roles and is offering salaries of up to £95,000 a year to the successful candidates.  

The non-ministerial government department, which is tasked with taking criminal investigations through the courts, is seeking a deputy director for digital and a deputy director for digital programmes. 

The CPS said the deputy director of digital is responsible for the quality, performance, benefits, and outcomes of digital products and services within the organisation – managing prioritisation, risk assessment, decision making. They also provide direction to digital teams in line with department policies and user outcomes. 

The role includes setting digital policy, advocating for and delivering digital initiatives, and integrating them into the organisational framework. 

Essential attributes for the successful candidate include a “proven ability” to set and deliver a clear digital vision and strategy that aligns with organisational priorities and delivers measurable outcomes for users.  

Another must-have is a “strong track record” of championing and embedding agile, iterative, and product-based approaches in organisations used to traditional delivery methods.

According to the CPS’s recruitment campaign, the deputy director for digital programmes will be responsible for leading the programme to transform the organisation’s core business system, which underpins the entire criminal justice system for England and Wales. 

The advertisement says the successful candidate must have a “proven track-record” of leading complex, multi-year, high value programmes through the full lifecycle, in environments with legacy technology and critical operational systems.  

Other essential criteria include a “strong ability” to influence and collaborate with complex and diverse stakeholder groups to build confidence and deliver results, and “significant experience” at managing major contracts and supplier relationships. 

Both roles are at SCS Pay Band 1 and can be based at a range of locations across England and Wales, including Birmingham, London, Newcastle-upon-Tyne and York. 

The roles are open to applications until 11:55pm on 24 November.
