Local authority for Westmorland and Furness is advertising a range of vacancies, including positions focused on digital innovation and artificial intelligence, that will play a key role in delivering transformation
Westmorland and Furness Council is currently recruiting for 25 positions across its technology and digital operations, including two posts as dedicated artificial intelligence officers.
The AI officer roles come with a remit to help develop and then deliver “a programme of work that will explore, implement, and scale AI solutions to improve services and create better outcomes for our communities”.
“As an AI officer, you’ll play an important role in delivering our AI Programme — helping to coordinate activities, support the delivery of pilot projects, and contribute to shaping how AI is used across the organisation,” the job advert says. “
Also currently open for applications are two positions as digital innovation officers, who will be asked to work “closely with service teams to design and implement user-focused digital solutions that enhance the experience for both staff and residents”.
The advert for these posts says: “You’ll also take a leading role in supporting system users — helping them harness the full potential of our digital tools and championing the benefits of digital transformation. With a strong organisational ambition to increase digital transactions, these roles are central to delivering that vision.”

Other jobs currently advertised on the council’s jobs website include: a senior digital design officers; four vacancies for web content design officers; a CRM delivery manager; a digital service design officer; an ICT infrastructure manager; an ICT systems and data manager; an ICT engineer; three vacancies for ICT technicians; an ICT database administrator; four vacancies for ICT systems and data engineers; and three vacancies as ICT infrastructure engineers.
Salaries for these roles range from a little under £30,000 to more than £50,000 for the most senior posts.

Westmorland and Furness Council was created in 2023 and replaced previous district and borough authorities serving the areas of Barrow, Eden, and South Lakeland, as well as taking on functions from the now-defunct Cumbria County Council.
Services provided to the local citizenry including refuse collections, planning applications, administration of tax and benefits, road maintenance, and education and social care services.
The council serves a population of almost a quarter of a million people, including the residents of towns including Barrow, Kendal, and Penrith.
