The UK Hydrographic Office is offering a six-figure salary in its bid to recruit a new chief digital technology officer to spearhead the organisation’s transformation agenda.
UKHO – an executive agency of the Ministry of Defence which provides data on oceans and maritime navigation – is seeking a senior manager to sit at the head of a workforce of 200 digital and IT professionals.
The new tech leader will be tasked with “championing innovation, driving our digital strategy, and ensuring we remain at the cutting edge of maritime geospatial data services”, according to the job advert.

“Your leadership will be crucial in enhancing our digital services, fostering a culture of innovation, and ensuring we deliver on our transformation goals,” it added.
These goals are part of an “ambitious transformation journey” to be undertaken over the coming years. This programme will be dedicated to “driving change across our systems, services, and culture”.
“We are seeking a dynamic and experienced chief digital technology officer to lead this transformation, ensuring our services meet the needs of our customers – including the Royal Navy – and uphold the UK’s Safety of Life at Sea commitments,” the advert said.
UKHO is based in Taunton, and the successful candidate will be expected to spend three days a week in this office or another MoD location – although there will not be a contractual requirement to do so. The appointee will join the agency’s executive leadership team and will report to the chief executive.
Applications are open until 11.55pm on 13 October.
