Cabinet Office-based team offers potential six-figure salary for cross-government role
A cross-government unit dedicated to promoting and supporting post-Brexit trade is offering a potential salary of more than £100,000 in a bid to recruit a data and analytics leader.
The Border Trade and Brexit Opportunities (BTBO) team is advertising a vacant post as deputy director for data, performance and insight. The successful candidate for the role will be “responsible for leading work across HM government to identify, share and analyse HMG and third-party data to support improvement to the border and delivery of Brexit opportunities”.
The postholder will oversee the work of a team of about 20 data, analytics, and project-delivery professionals at BTBO – which is based in the Cabinet Office. They will also provide “cross-Whitehall leadership and technical management” of the Border Flow Service, which aims to collate information from various departments to provide about 200 officials across six departments with near-real time insights on cross-border trade. The data and analytics chief will also manage the service’s £10m-a-year budget.
The job advert said: “[This] post is key in leading a data and analysis function for BTBO. This requires strong technical leadership and the ability to interpret broad government priorities and translate these into data and analysis projects to provide strategic insight.”
It added: “Current analytical priorities of the team are supporting the development of a new Target Operating Model for the border; evaluating and evidencing the successful modernisation of the border; and identifying and measuring the impact of Brexit opportunities.”
If an external candidate is appointed, they “should expect” a starting salary of £71,000 a year. The figure for existing officials will “in line with the normal civil service pay rules”, up to a maximum of £117,800.
The role is based in London and applications are open until 11.55pm on 17 July.
