Tax agency awards three-year contract to specialist firm

HM Revenue and Customs has signed a £2m deal for the secure destruction and refurbishment of IT kit.
The contract, which commenced on 26 August, has been awarded to specialist firm EOL IT Services. In addition to an initial term of three years, the engagement can be extended by two additional periods of 12 months each.
The contract covers the disposal or repurposing of both individual devices as well as “bulk and project-based collection requests”.
Products will require collection from HMRC offices around the UK, and also from employees’ homes.

Once kit has been picked up, it must then be safely transported to “a secure facility of sanitisation, disposal, destruction, redeployment, return, recycle or remarket of equipment”.
Transportation, disposal or refurbishment must be conduced in line with guidelines from the National Cyber Security Centre and the Centre for the Protection of National Infrastructure.
Where products are refurbished and resold, EOL must return all proceeds to HMRC.
The Essex-based company must also provide “secure destruction of media” and files included on devices.
The terms of the contract require the provision of a range of monthly reports providing the tax agency with updates on metrics such as collected items, completed disposals, and stock held for redeployment.
