Trusts across the country are to adopt technology platform

Hospitals across Wales are to move to a new digital pharmacy system from software firm WellSky.
Rollout of the platform will begin around the middle of this year, and WellSky will support the deployment and the continued use of the technology over the course of a seven-year contract signed with the NHS Wales Informatics Service.

The system, which will replace a 30-year-old platform, is designed to unify standards across the country, which will then allow users to link dispensing data to information on usage. It will afford the NHS a “real-time view” of the interactions between patients, hospitals, and pharmacies.
Colin Powell, chief pharmacist – acute services at Aneurin Bevan University Health Board, said: “This will be a new way of working for hospital pharmacy with improved data and reporting to shape future services.”
The informatics service said that the platform should be considered a “first step” in a journey that will then move on to a procurement exercise for an e-prescribing system that will, ultimately, replace paper prescriptions and record-keeping with another digital system.
