Newcastle University is launching a £15m dynamic purchasing system for suppliers to support a “significant installed base” of Huawei equipment.

The institution is looking for firms that can supply products from the networking vendor, as well as offering installation and ongoing maintenance services.

The DPS is split into three lots; the first covers the supply of equipment, the second primarily addresses installation and commissioning, and the third will feature suppliers of maintenance services.

The university requires the supply and support of a range of products, including “edge switches; datacentre switches, WiFi access points and associated controllers, network management platforms, [and] optical transmission equipment”.

The deal will last four years and, unlike a traditional static framework, a DPS allows suppliers to be added across the lifespan of the contract.

The contract notice said: “Newcastle University has a significant installed base of Huawei networking equipment and wishes to establish a DPS for the supply of Huawei networking equipment, maintenance of Huawei networking equipment, and installation and commissioning services… ensuring that such equipment and services continue to support the university data networking needs.”

Bidding is open now, with the DPS scheduled to go live on 6 January.
