Platform to be used by officers and civilians

Essex Police is to create a data analytics tool for use by officers and other staff.

The Data Analytics for Everyone system will be populated by data from Essex Police, and will be available for use by its entire workforce – including both officers and civilian staff.  According to the contract notice, it will also be used by some officers and civilian staff by its neighbour to the south: Kent Police.

Over the course of the contract, and subject to the availability of licences, some users may be added from the five other forces – Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Hertfordshire, Norfolk, and Suffolk – that are part of a procurement collective that spans south-east England.

In the immediate term, Essex is seeking to appoint “a suitably experienced and qualified supplier” to three-year contract – with an optional 12-month extension. The deal, which is scheduled to come into effect around mid-October, is expected to be worth about £500,000 to the winning bidder.

The contract notice said that Essex Police is looking for “an IT application or software package that can intelligently use and interpret data provided by the contracting authority to look at trends and anomalies… and present this data in a way that is clear, creative, visually exciting and easily understandable for every user”.

Bids for the contract are open until 27 August.
