Service increases pay to £140,000 for role open since last September

The Government Digital Service (GDS) is advertising again for a director-level job initially publicised in January, having upped its salary by £10,000.
GDS is offering its new director for service design and assurance £140,000 annually, compared with £130,000 when the job was first advertised. The previous holder of the job, Nic Harrison, returned to his previous employer the Department for Work and Pensions in September 2018.
The role includes oversight of a budget of £9m; line management responsibility for the service’s heads of security standards, service design standards, technology standards and standards assurance; and indirect managerial responsibility for about 100 staff.
The successful candidate, who will report directly to GDS director general Kevin Cunnington’s successor and be based at the service’s headquarters in Whitechapel in east London, will have experience in leading large, multi-disciplinary teams, an ability to foresee and mitigate potential issues and “an ability to set and ‘sell’ the vision as it pertains to current and future use of technology”, according to the advert.
The recruitment process is being run by management recruiter Green Park with applications closing on 12 July. The company will hold interviews in late July and early August, with final panel interviews taking place in early September.
GDS said it would not comment on an ongoing recruitment.
