National weather service recruiting for security chief

The Met Office is recruiting for a chief information security officer to drive up levels of cybersecurity expertise across the organisation’s workforce.
The CISO position, which is based at the Exeter headquarters of the national weather service, comes with a remit to spearhead the implementation of a “cybersecurity enhancement programme”. The postholder will also be tasked with delivering certain key “corporate outcomes”, including compliance with Cabinet Office security standards.
In addition to which, the security chief will be expected to engage with key stakeholders on cybersecurity issues, as well as working to “develop a culture of security awareness, ensuring that appropriate levels of security knowledge exist across the whole organisation”.

It added: “However, the benefits from today’s connected world come with evolving risk. We believe that good cybersecurity and business continuity is essential to support our ability to continue to deliver world-class services and maintain our world-leading science and capability.”
Applicants must come with experience of “delivering and managing information security in a large organisation”. The role also requires a CISSP or CISM qualification, or a degree or equivalent accreditation in the area of information security.
The CISO will manage a team of 20 people, and will form part of the Met Office’s technology senior management team. The post comes a salary of up to £61,458, with a potential additional £5,000 in “discretionary market allowance” – plus up to another £5,000 in relocation funds.
