Prime Minister’s Office awards one-year hardware contract

The Prime Minister’s Office has awarded a one-year computing hardware contract to the UK operation of US IT giant CDW.
The deal, which was awarded through the £4bn Technology Products 2 Framework, covers the supply of Dell servers. The contract is worth an estimated £44,475.72 and lasts for an initial period of 12 months, with an optional one-year extension.
CDW is expected to deliver the products during the week commencing 21 January, recently published transparency data indicates.

Headquartered in Illinois, CDW employs close to 9,000 people across 26 locations around the globe. In its 2018 fiscal year it generated sales of about $16bn (£12.5bn) and was last year ranked at 189 on the annual Fortune 500 list of the largest US corporations.
Its UK business, which is largely based on its 2015 acquisition of London-based tech reseller Kelway, posted turnover of £720m in 2017 and has over 1,000 employees.
In opting for Dell infrastructure, the PM has chosen the world’s most popular brand of server. Data from research firm IDC shows that Dell accounted for 17.5% of all servers sold globally in 2018’s third quarter, slightly ahead of rival HPE.
The server procurement was conducted on behalf of the Prime Minister’s Office by the Crown Commercial Service.
