Chosen candidate will ultimately ‘promote the use of drone services within the council’
Brent Council is offering an apprenticeship that includes training as a licensed professional drone pilot.
The north-west London borough is recruiting for an apprentice interested in combining core duties as a trainee graphic designer with a sideline in flying small, unmanned aircraft. The graphic design element of the apprenticeship will include assisting in the creation of print and digital content.
Alongside this, the chosen applicant will undertake a training programme run by the Civil Aviation Authority. Upon completion of which they will become “a fully licensed professional drone pilot”.

The authority plans to make increasing use of the vehicles in its services and engagement activities.
“The candidate will… work with the head of the team to promote the use of drone services within the council, and be embedded temporarily in each department as part of promotions,” the job advert said. “The candidate will also be used for in-house drone recording jobs, once they are fully qualified. Such film and photographic jobs will vary, from documentary, to info films, to dramas.”
The post comes with an initial fixed-term contract of 12 to 18 months, and a salary of £15,000. Applications are open until 1 November.
The council said that “an apprenticeship can be used for people starting out on their work life journey at the age of 16 or those changing a career for a different working life”. Applications are open to anyone with five GCSEs or equivalent qualifications, and a “good intermediate understanding” of Adobe design software.
