Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy offers £125k for a CDIO

New CDIO will lead move away from legacy systems and drive digital transformation

The government’s Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) is seeking a new Chief Digital and Information Officer (CDIO) and is offering up to £125,000 for the right candidate.

BEIS was created in July 2016, as a result of a merger between the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) and the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC). The department is responsible for developing and delivering an industrial strategy, leading the government’s relationship with the private sector, ensuring the country has the necessary energy supplies and tackling climate change.

It is now on the hunt for a CDIO, who will report to the director general for finance and corporate services.

The CDIO’s key priorities will be  moving away from legacy systems to what BEIS called “a more dynamic solution”, and driving digital transformation across the department in a bid to improve commercial innovation and the delivery of services.

In the job advert, BEIS said it would like to identify a senior leader with a proven track record of defining and driving digital transformation.

“The successful candidate will provide strong leadership and senior-level advocacy for the delivery of IT and digital technology solutions with the ability to work with executive and non-executive colleagues,” the department said.

BEIS is looking for a candidate who can prove they can transform the technology estate and embed a sustainable digital capability across the department.

The full-time, permanent role is based in Westminster, London. The closing date for applications is Friday 3 November, and preliminary interviews are scheduled for the week commencing 13 November. Thereafter, there will be an assessment exercise in late November and final panel interviews on 11 December.
