Welsh Government announces multimillion-pound spending pot for healthcare technology

The Welsh Government has committed £5.5m to invest in digital technologies it hopes will improve its use of data and provision of care.
Among the projects which will receive funding is a cybersecurity review of every NHS entity in Wales. The results of these reviews “will inform the development of national and local cybersecurity plans”, the Welsh Government said.
The Welsh Clinical Portal – an online resource for hospital doctors that collates patient information from various sources – will also receive additional investment. As will the Welsh Community Care Information System, a platform allowing workers from both health and social care professions to share care records.
Welsh Assembly health secretary Vaughan Gething said: “In a modern NHS, delivering world-class care in the 21st century, you need to have the most up-to-date information technology systems in place. If you want the best technology in the Welsh NHS, you have to invest in IT.”
