The Department for Education is hiring a trio of senior technology leaders, including a new chief information security officer (CISO).

The department is also recruiting a chief architect and a head of product. All three posts are considered part of the DfE’s digital, data, and technology (DDaT) senior leadership team.

The CISO will take up a post “at board level to provide the department’s management committee with advice and support on cybersecurity matters for the sector and the department”. The successful candidate will report into the department’s director of digital services. The role comes with an estimated salary of £83,000 a year.

The chief architect job, which will pay about £85,000 per annum, will report into the chief digital and technology officer, serving as their “leading specialist adviser on all digital, data, and technology solutions across the department and its agencies”.

The head of product post, which is the most handsomely remunerated of the three roles, coming with a yearly pay packet of £98,000, will also report into the chief digital and technology officer.

The DfE said: “[The] head of product will lead all product design within the DDaT function, and advise how DDaT can best deliver value to the user through coherent user experience and reuse of government and DfE platforms and components.”

The hiring process for all three jobs will include the creation of a longlist, followed by a shortlist, before final interviews, which will take place during the week commencing 11 December. Each job will be based at one or more of the DfE’s sites in Coventry, Sheffield, and Manchester.
