Department for Work and Pensions seeks someone to head up 150-strong infrastructure services group
The Department for Work and Pensions is offering up to £120,000 a year for a new head of infrastructure services, as it presses ahead with its digital transformation programme.
Last year the department brought together its design, technology, data and security teams into a single DWP Digital Unit, in a restructuring partly prompted by the departure of Kevin Cunnington to become head of the Government Digital Service.
The department is now seeking someone to head up its 150-strong infrastructure services team, which includes DWP’s infrastructure engineers who are responsible for sourcing and maintaining technology used right across the organisation.

In a job specification posted online, the DWP said the successful candidate would be involved in “designing, influencing, enabling and delivering the department’s transformation required in the short, medium and long term”.
As well as managing the infrastructure services team and identifying the department’s technology needs, the ad says the new head will be asked to provide “thought leadership” and set “vision and direction”, driving “the move to a digitally led culture within the function”.
Introducing the role, Juan Villamil – the DWP’s chief technology officer for architecture, infrastructure & operations – said he was looking for candidates “with a passion for technology and a proven track record of achieving successful outcomes in a complex environment”.
He added: “The successful candidate will take on the responsibility for creating and leading a technology delivery function whose mission is to achieve flawless and predictable execution.
“It requires individuals with a unique combination of credible leadership skills at a senior level and hands-on technical expertise to execute the delivery and design of technology services that affect millions of lives.”
The role is at senior civil service level and the successful candidate can be based in either London, Manchester or Blackpool. Those interested in applying have until September 25 to put themselves forward, with interviews set to take place throughout October.
