Two senior technology posts on offer at central government department

Each of the two roles the Home Office is hiring for will be responsible for overseeing major project rollouts

The Home Office is seeking a duo of senior technology professionals to head up its end-user computing and cloud services operations.

The department is advertising two posts, each with a salary of up to almost £75,000: head of cloud engineering; and head of end-user computing. 

The former role comes with a remit of building “a multi-cloud application container platform” which can support both on-premises and cloud-based technology. Thereafter, the successful candidate will be responsible for introducing the platform into the Home Office’s operations. The cloud chief will also be tasked with helping “shape how services are designed and iterated on”.

“The head of cloud engineering… will have a large impact on the future of digital technology in the Home Office,” said the department. “This role has the ability to really shape how the Home Office consumes commodity cloud services by making a repeatable and robust platform that is independent of provider and uses specific providers’ features to make advantages functionality improvements for the wider Home Office portfolios.” 

The Home Office added: “[The successful candidate] will be a key catalyst in the development of a new culture of technical excellence in cloud adoption within the Home Office.”

The end-user computing leader, meanwhile, will be required to head up a “rapid deployment of new Windows 10 end-user compute services to 30,000 users”. They will also be tasked with setting the department’s strategy for non-Windows platforms, including macOS, as well as leading a rollout of the Office 365 platform. 

A “wholescale upgrade of our print-services infrastructure” will be another priority for the successful candidate, the Home Office added.

“The role has the remit to develop, design and construct a team to design, deliver and innovate technology to drive higher levels of service across the Home Office,” the department said.
