Data on library book renewal, council tax payments and bus pass applications are to be added to the local government performance dashboard being hosted by the Government Digital Service.
The three new services follow a successful pilot which launched earlier this year, covering bin collection in Solihull.
Another seven councils will now also join the bin collection dashboard, after the trial identified opportunities to reduce failure demand.
Immediate past president of Socitm Steve Halliday, who is head of ICT at Solihull Metropolitan District Council, has been working on the local digital dashboard intiative.
Writing on his blog yesterday, he said: “The hardest part was reducing the selection to three transactions – the long term vision is for very many transactions, but we’ll get there in manageable steps.”
The library book element will be led by Warwickshire County Council, with other authorities joining as the project goes along.
Halliday said: “This one has a vast number of digital transactions across local government with a growing digital engagement. It will be great to evidence this with some real time facts and figures.”
The council tax dashboard will be developed by East Riding of Yorkshire, and is expected to provide a number of challenges due to the number of payment channels.
Cambridgeshire County Council will lead on bus passes and related travel concessions for students and the elderly.
Some authorities provide this service directly, while some do it via passenger transport executives which can cover more than one authority.
The authorities represented in phase two of the dashboard initative also include Nottingham City Council, Nottinghamshire County Council, Kirklees Council, Warwickshire County Council, East Riding of Yorkshire Council, Surrey County Council and Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council.
Halliday said that at a meeting to launch phase two, a debate was held about whether dashboards should be extended to cover non-transactional digital services such as data on schools.
The meeting also resolved to consult with service managers on whether wider, non-digital service performance data should also be included in future.
The GDS and participating councils will now enter an agile sprint to develop the dashboards and data selection for the new transactions, Halliday said.
