The road to proactive government

April 30 @ 10:30 am - 11:30 am

Free to attend

In hindsight, “black swan” events may have been more likely than we realised. For example, history tells us that financial downturns often precede conflicts. Despite governments being aware of the possibility of such events, it is impossible to predict when or how events occur or their consequences. Due to this uncertainty and limited information available, leaders must prepare strategies based on what seems most likely and urgent at any given time.

Given budgetary constraints, governments may struggle to justify allocating taxpayer funds to prepare for a risk that may not materialise. But, when unexpected events occur, the public may question why the government did not take adequate action or prepare sufficiently.

In this webinar, a panel of senior government officials will explore the strategies and the tools available to be prepared for the unexpected while protecting and improving citizens’ lives.

Discussion points include:

How to improve government’s situational awareness

Improving the use of real-time data for better decision-making

The role of emergent technologies in improving operational efficiencies and increasing public trust

Speakers:

Harry Snart, Data Scientist at SAS Institute

Jessica Bowie, Editor at Civil Service World

Maryam Ahmad, Head of Analysis – BOLD Programme at Ministry of Justice
