The Government Digital Service is looking to recruit a director for the Digital Marketplace.

The role, which will pay around £90,000, is for a fixed period of two years.

The director will be responsible for oversight of the Digital Marketplace, the government’s procurement site, and support broader government digital and technology reforms.

This will include support for the target of increasing central government spend on small businesses to 33% by 2020, ensuring the digital commercial programme agreed in GDS’ business plan is delivered on budget – which has been set at £3.9 million.

They will also be programme director for G-Cloud, which aims to help public sector agencies identify and procure technology services that use cloud computing.

The job description calls for them to create an open and competitive market and work closely with digital and technology suppliers, as well as implementing open standards and data quality.

The new recruit will report to the chief technology officer and will lead a team of 38 staff. They will also work closely with the Crown Commercial Service and Government Legal Department, the advert said.

The closing date for applications is 4 July.
