Devolved administration has awarded the latest iteration of its longstanding framework covering the provision of a variety of devices to the public sector, including laptops, tablets, thin clients and wearables
The Scottish Government has signed a new £100m contract for the provision of computing devices across the public sector.
The deal is the latest iteration of the Web Based and Proprietary Devices arrangement – a single-supplier framework covering the provision of a variety of laptops, tablets and other devices. IT reseller XMA has won the previous two versions of the contract, respectively awarded in 2015 and 2019.
Following an extension of the prior iteration – to allow for the completion of the procurement process for the new deal – XMA has been retained on an initial three-year contract, which came into effect on 29 January.

The deal, which can be extended for a further 12-month term, is value at £120m, once VAT is included. This represents an increase of £24m compared with the previous device agreement. XMA beat off competition from one other bidder for the contract, newly published commercial documents indicate.
The latest iteration of the framework will cover a wider range of device options and related services, according to the contract award notice. Products and services will be available for purchase by all Scottish public sector bodies, via call-off contracts.
The notice said: “The new framework will build on the success of the current framework and will cover the provision of web-based devices, proprietary devices, thin-client devices, open source tablet devices, mobile handset devices – excluding connectivity – and wearable devices, plus associated services, including but not limited to storage, deployment and pre/post-sales technical support.”
