Duo of departments pick thin-prime specialist for £60m device deal

As part of their Integrated Corporate Services joint support unit, the Departments for Science, Innovation and Technology and Energy Security and Net Zero have signed a major new IT contract

Two government departments have picked a ‘thin-prime’ specialist lead supplier to deliver a three-year IT device and support contract worth more than £60m.

Following a joint procurement exercise – covering the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero and Department for Science, Innovation and Technology – a three-year deal with Bramble Hub was signed on 1 October.

The London-based firm specialises in operating as a lead contractor for government engagements and frameworks, and supplying the goods or services in question via a network of subcontractors. The company claims that it works with a network of “partners… of all sizes, but predominantly small and medium companies [and], in partnership with them, we provide a broad range of consultancy and technical services as well as software products”.

In this case, Bramble’s ecosystem of tech SMEs will provide “end user compute services required to operate and support the authorities technical architecture”, according to newly published commercial information.

Between now and 2027, when the agreement concludes, an estimated £63m will be spent via the deal.

The commercial process was run by government’s Integrated Corporate Services (ICS) unit, which was created following the machinery of government changes in 2023 that included the creation of DSIT and DESNZ.

ICS oversees the joint provision of services including procurement, digital, property, finance, HR and security across DSIT and DESNZ. It also provides some of these services to the Department for Business and Trade, as well as to several other government entities.
